Your Exam grade and Semester Average
Your exam grade is NOT part of the 2nd 9 weeks grade. It will be one-fifth of your semester average, which means it will have the weight of half of a nine weeks grade. Your semester average will be calculated as follows: 2(1st 9 weeks grade) + 2(2nd 9 weeks grade) + exam grade all divided by 5 = 1st semester average. If that average is 60 or above, you will have earned half a credit for Algebra I. If that average is below 60, you will not receive half a credit for Algebra I, which means you will have to attend summer school to make-up that credit or repeat Algebra I in high school.
Since this exam grade will have such a big impact on your semester average, it is IMPERATIVE that you complete all assigned exam review homework to be thoroughly prepared for this exam. Each exam review assignment will be graded and be part of your 9 weeks average.

How to Interpret Homework "grades" posted in INOW.
Homework in Algebra I Math Team is NOT averaged into a student's grade, but it is VERY IMPORTANT and expected that students complete every assignment in order to get enough practice to learn new concepts. Homework is due the next day in class AFTER we have gone over any questions students have and they have had a chance to correct their mistakes. I will work any problems on the board that they ask me about and they can work them with me to correct any errors they have made. When I receive the paper it should have all problems completed, all work shown, and all mistakes corrected.
Homework "grades" in INOW indicate the following:
1 point: full credit - everything was completed as described above.
.5 point: at least half , but not all the problems were completed and corrected with all work shown.
.1 point: paper turned in, but less than half the problems were completed or only answers were given (no work) I consider this assignment not done at all.
0 points: no paper was every turned in
If you look at INOW from a smartphone, grades of .5 and .1 will appear as 0. If you click on the arrow to the right of the assignment, the correct grade will appear.
Failure to consistently complete daily work will result in detentions and/or Saturday school to get it completed.
Though these grades are not averaged in, there is a direct correlation between the quantity and quality of homework completed with quiz and test scores. It is imperative that students complete all daily assignments to be successful on quizzes and tests in order to earn the high school credit for Algebra I.

Welcome to Algebra I Math Team!
Welcome to my first blog for the Algebra Math team! I hope that you have enjoyed your summer and have taken or will take some time before school starts to complete your summer packet. Remember that you will have 3 quizzes the first week of school as listed on the title page of the packet. Also, the Pre-Test for Chapters 1-3 is due the first day of school. Below, I have attached the answers to the pages that are not self-checking you were to have completed in the packet so you can check your answers. Remember, the only part of the packet you will turn in is the pre-test. The rest is yours to keep. I WILL NOT be going over any of the material in class this year. The expectation is that you know it already and the packet was just to review this material in preparation for this year. I look forward to meeting you at registration or on August 10th!
